Magazine Project Part 2

The next feature is a photo review of the 2011 f1 season. There are 100 photos (you can count them if you don’t believe me) arranged in chronological order beginning in Australia and ending in Brazil.

The next 4 pages are previews of the new RedBull RB8 and McLaren MP4-27 cars. For these pages i took inspiration for the design from loads of different f1 magazines applying elements from all of them and adding my own perosonal touch. This section was by far the longest section to put together, firstly because it was a struggle to get pictures of the new RedBull and secondly because all of the photos had to be cout out onto a transparent background. I am especially proud of my carbon fibre effect text on these pages.

The last section is preview pages for the first 4 races of 2012. I traced over old track maps in illustrator and gave them my own 3D design and colour scheme. The usage of circle photos and text in small rings next to them was copied from F1 Racing magazine as I thought it was a nice effect. Over these pages I’m especially proud of the titles with the flag of the country hosting the race inside.

Here is the back cover for the magazine.

Overall the whole magazine took 4 weeks from the very beginning to being 100% finished although there has been long gaps in between where all i could do was wait for photos to be published. Minus the waiting the magazine took about a week and a half of work at a relaxed pace.

Magazine Project Part 1

Here are the first 15 pages of my magazine that i have designed for my media coursework (see last post). The front cover is closely related to the Racing Line magazine covers i have previously designed but as Racing Line was actually a real magazine, i decided to play safe and change the name even though Racing Line no longer exists.

Pages 2 & 3 are the contents pages of the magazine. I have used the exact same method of organising the contents as F1 Racing magazine has. this is a 3 way contents with a text based list, large pictures with page numbers for the articles as a caption and finally pictures of the pages themselves with page numbers.

The next 6 pages (4-10) are called snapshot and are intended to showcase impressive photography in formula 1. This section is what AUTOSPORT call “Snapshot” and F1 Racing call “Parade”.

Next the magazine foes into the features section. The first feature is the Jaime Alguersuari article that I designed for Finalsector magazine. I re-designed the article with a different main picture for pages 10 & 11 and kept the final page of the feature the same. i also have updated the article story to be up to date with what has happened since it was first published.

Next is the Lewis Hamilton artilce that i designed previously based on a Finalsector article already created. I have changed all of the images and also again updated the text to be up to date.

There’ll be a lot of new content posted on here soon.

I’ve created a 32 page* magazine for my media studies coursework. Some articles are from scratch and some are better redesigns of what I have already made for the final sector magazine. The magazine is pretty much finished but is awaiting some content which is not yet available.

Just to give an outline to my coursework, originally I was supposed to research and create a music video but after a term, I had got nowhere with no ideas. I looked to the exam board website for any kind of inspiration and I came across a FAQ section for teachers. In this section I learnt that I had the option to make a magazine and that print based media could be submitted at both AS and A2 levels. I contacted the head of media and asked if I could change. A few strongly worded emails were sent back and forth and I was told it was too late to change and that the syllabus prevented print based media in both years. I replied with a link to the document from the exam board and that was that. I then received a phone call from the man himself saying I could do magazine but i was on my own. Victory.

Over Christmas I wrote my research essay and was completely caught up by the time to go back in january.

I decided that I would start my magazine straight away and I have now got a 95% finished magazine before I am meant to have started.

After visiting Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea beat Valencia I decided that I would have a go at making my own programme cover. I chose to copy the exact same format of the current programme with one or two changes in term of layout but the main feature is the picture and the way i have masked in part of the background to make it look as if someone has painted it on.

Here are 2 features that I designed. In the fist feature (pictures 1 & 2) I rushed my work and made many mistakes. For the second feature (Picture 3) I spent more time and took more attention to detail.

For this project i had to design a DVD cover and poster for a film. The film had to be made up and based on the generic conventions of a certain genre. The genre I chose was horror. I had to research the horror genre and the generic conventions of the films, DVD/Video covers and posters and write a shooting script and design the DVD cover and Poster. Many people that saw my DVD cover when in a DVD box thought that it was real and that i had bought it from somewhere

This is the first ever piece of design work I did using Adobe InDesign whilst on work experience at Haymarket. My projects was to design whatever I wanted and also research the potential readership and cost to produce it. Being a chelsea supporter I designed a front cover and contents page for matchday programmes. I am happy with the front cover but i think the contents page could be vastly improved. (Apologies again for picture quality)

This is one of the very first pieces of design work I ever did. My project was to create a front cover and double page spread for a magazine, following the generic conventions of other magazines on similar topics. Being a big formula 1 fan I chose to design a Formula 1 magazine. I based the design of my magazine mostly on a formula 1 season preview special top gear magazine (Apologies for poor picture quality)
